Diverging into this idea of a smart surface, in of itself is interesting but adding an element to the mix, such as water makes it more challenging. Working through initial stages of the project, dealing with a surface that not only holds water and doesn’t leak but also incorporating elements of hour and folding, a measure of time and a physical action. This idea or hour, first was though as a measure of time such as, from three to four in the afternoon but it can also be perceived as a standard, such as every quarter hour.  Then integrating folding into the mix, where it can communicate some sort of information to the surrounding community. Thinking of it as an LED screen with each “pixel” as a folding element that can individually controlled.  The idea came from a type of art expression called rain shadow.
